Happy New Year to all our customers and visitors to our website. I thought I would start the year with some reflection on how great our team did last year by getting together and contributing to causes we care about.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something that we try our very best with here at MES. In 2018 we broke our own record by putting on 10 events centred around giving back and supporting many different charities and local communities. This ranged from donating to food banks, to knitting hats for the Innocent Big Knit that supports Age UK, doing interview practice with students and even taking part in different bake sales. Each event supported different charities and included many different tasks that sends the message there is something for everyone to take part in.
Giving back is something that we enjoy and take pride in, whether that is giving time, donating money for a cause or physically mucking in as we did when knitting hats or baking goodies. Why do we do this? There are many personal and collective reasons that encourage and motivate us to get involved.
“For me I enjoy making a difference and positively contributing to various communities, this compassion gives me a strong sense of belonging and a great feeling of togetherness. At an individual level, we are given the opportunity to express ourselves and raise awareness amongst our colleagues on the things that are important to us, and to have colleagues support that is a great feeling.”
In the work environment, this is part of getting to know each other’s stories, connecting as people and it offers a different type of support outside of the ‘day to day’ work realm. As a team we enjoy getting together for different causes, learning along the way, sharing our compassion with one another and really living our values inside and outside of work. This makes us feel good, uplifted and is humbling in some ways as it is healthy to take a step back and reflect on your own positionality by really putting things into perspective.
Spirits are high, morale is up and we are turning up that ‘feel good’ feeling to the max with altruism. Giving back demonstrates in some cases small changes can make the biggest differences and research has shown “the more you do for others, the more you do for yourself”. We will continue to go above and beyond in giving back in all the ways we can, continue to listen to one another, learn from one another and be innovative in the ways in which we can help, continue to form bonds and partnerships with those we work with, stay true to what we do and focus on the one thing we all share in common- being people.
